This 2016 340i came through the shop recently for a leaking transmission, after inspection we decided to drain the fluid from the pan. We found that the transmission heat exchanger had failed, thus allowing coolant into the transmission cooler lines giving the fluid a “coffee” like appearance. This situation is uncommon, and generally detrimental to the transmission components. Luckily the transmission was not showing any signs of failure, which indicated we caught it in time. After replacing the heat exchanger and flushing 20 quarts of ATF through the system, we replaced the pan/filter and did a final fill with @liquimoly ATF 1800. This 2025 X5M came through Big Three for some performance upgrades and left sounding and looking even better. We installed a full titanium Akrapovič midpipe and exhaust, complete with valve wiring integration, along with a carbon rear diffuser and carbon mirror caps. Under the hood, it’s now breathing through a full Eventuri carbon intake system and turbo inlets. Everything was installed in-house at Big Three Performance, right here in Sarasota. We just finished up this Z3M “Clownshoe” for my close friend @sidewaysimoshop. Originally we planned to refresh the timing components and replace the rod bearings while we were ...

We just finished up this Z3M “Clownshoe” for my close friend @sidewaysimoshop. Originally we planned to refresh the timing components and replace the rod bearings while we were in there. Upon removal of the Cyl 6 Bearings we unfortunately found that the bearing had spun. Regardless we moved forward, I polished the crank journal and measured the tolerances. Everything checked out so we re-assembled. Fast forward and the car is running great and ready for a turbo in the near future! This 2016 340i came through the shop recently for a leaking transmission, after inspection we decided to drain the fluid from the pan. We found that the transmission heat exchanger had failed, thus allowing coolant into the transmission cooler lines giving the fluid a “coffee” like appearance.
